Default Charles Lee b. 1802 in Ipswich

I am looking for the birth record of Charles Lee b. March 4, 1802 in Ipswich, Suffolk. His mother's maiden name was Frost. I know he had siblings William, James, John, Charles....and his sisters, Lydia married a Mr. Obadiah Squirrel, Hannah married a Mr. Goodwin, Sarah mar. a Mr. Stannard and Mary mar. a Mr. Cullingham. I find a record of a possible two of these marriages, one at St. Margaret's and one at St. Lawrence. I am in the US and not familiar with researching in the UK. I have looked at Family Search, Ancestry, Roots. I would like to know how to find Charles Lee's birth record. Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks, M. Anderson

    Hi,

    Try here, https://www.familysearch.org/

There's possible records for the Lee's you are researching. How certain are you that Sarah married a Stannard, I ask as I found a marriage between Hannah Lee and William Stannard, 10/3/1813, St Margaret, Ipswich. Found on the link provided above

    Hello meleanor

Before 1837, there was no civil system of birth registration: you will instead be reliant on religious records. The original baptism records for the various Ipswich churches are likely to have been deposited at the Suffolk Record Office (check their website for details of holdings). You should be able to commission them to (or a freelance researcher) to search the original records for you. Alternatively, check the catalogue of the Family History Library to see if you can order microfilm cocpies through your nearest LDS Family History Center.

The Suffolk Family History Society's 'search services' include a marriage index for 1754-1837. Their baptism index starts a bit late for you (1813). See https://www. suffolkfhs.co.uk/service.html

Depending on the status of the family you may find BMD announcments in newspapers. The Ipswich Journal is included in the 19th Century British Library Newspaper database. You can buy 24-hour or seven-day passes to use the site at https:// newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/ or you may be able to get free access via your library.

Googling for Obadiah Squirrel (what a great name!) found a monumental inscription at St Mary's, Wherstead, Suffolk:
