Default John Rogers, born about 1822 at Heckfield.

I'm trying to discover when John Rogers (born about 1822 at Heckfield, Hants) married and died. John married a woman whose first name was Frances about 1845, and had six children, the first of which was Emma M. Rogers (born 3rd Quarter 1847 at Bradfield, Berkshire), and the last, Jane Elizabeth Rogers (born 4th quarter 1865 at Windsor). The family appear in the census returns for 1851 (registration district: Bradfield), 1861 and 1871 (registration district for both: Windsor). John's wife Frances was born about 1828 at Astley Abbotts,
    Shropshire
, according to the censuses. I'd also like to know what happened to Frances, too. Any help with John and his wife would be much appreciated.

    Hello patk

There are several John Rogers marriages with potential spouse Frances/Francis/Fanny in the GRO index in the 1840s. I think you will need to know Frances' maiden name before you can pick out the right one. If you send off for a birth certificate for one of the children, this should tell you her maiden name. Let us know if you don't know how to go about doing this!

I will have to go off and look up those census references to see if I can help you at all on the rest of your question. I'll come back later, if no one else has come up with the answer first.

Have you checked out the death in Windsor, Berkshire March qtr 1898 2c 311
Frances Rogers aged 69 which would make her birthdate about 1829.

If the family in the 1891 census above are correct, then this may be a death for Frances...

    Deaths Mar 1898 Windsor 2c 311
    Rogers Frances
    Age 69

It looks like Frances left a will. There is an entry on the National Probate Calendar for Frances Rogers (wife of John Rogers). Probate on 02 May 1898.

And a possible death for John...

    Deaths Mar 1900 Windsor 2c [39]82
    Rogers John
    Age 79

And there's a John Rogers (79) whose death was registered in the Windsor district in the first quarter of 1900.

P.S. beaten to it by olliecat! Perhaps I need some coffee to make me go faster...

What do you think about the following marriage? As Frances was born in Shropshire it may be possible that is where she married.
June qtr 1845 Clun District Shropshire 18 103

    John ROGERS and Frances PARR

I'm a bit puzzled by the 1851 census. He seems to be married to an Elizabeth rather than a Frances.

1851: HO107 Piece: 1691 Folio: 281 Page: 7 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)
    Mortimer Street, Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire

ROGERS, Emma M, dau, 3, Mortimer Berkshire
ROGERS, Lora dau, 7 mo, Mortimer Berkshire
ROGERS, Robert, father, wid, 73, late baker, Heckfield Hampshire
ALLEN, Alice Servant, 18, house servant, Mortimer Berkshire
JACOB, Elizabeth, servant, 15, house servant, Burghfield Berkshire

There's an online index to gravestones at St Andrew's church, Clewer: see 'Graves' section of http://www. standrewsclewer.org.uk/
I can't see any sign of the Rogers family. However, that doesn't mean they're not buried there, just that there are no surviving (or legible) headstones.

They seem to be a very genealogist-friendly parish, for I see that they hold regular "Discover Your Dead" days , 'an opportunity for genealogists, historians and interested members of the public to visit the Churchyard, inspect the registers, and ask questions about the graves in the Churchyard'. The next one is this coming weekend, 12 March. Perhaps there's a BG member nearby who could pop along?

There is a marriage in Windsor 1843 to an Elizabeth GARRAWAY.
I think the birth certificate suggestion is probaby the safest option.
Could we have two different families here?
