Default Needing ideas on 45rpm records 1958-75 or so!

I am in negotiations with the owner of the company that provided the Rolls Royce [1962 model] for my daughter's wedding, to buy a juke-box of the same vintage. I intend to replace the music that is on it with records from the above period.

Currently I have in my collection:
"Lovesick Blues" - Frank Ifield, "Surfin' Safari - The Beach Boys, "Blue Suede Shoes" - Carl Perkins, [also by Elvis], "Wouldn't it be Nice" - The Beach Boys, "Help me Rhonda" - The Beach Boys, "Mony, Mony" - Tommy James and the Shondelles, "Tequila" - The Champs, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" - Bachman Turner Overdrive, "Johnny Angel" - Shelley Fabares, "The Air That I Breathe" - The Hollies "Band on the Run" - Paul McCartney and Wings, "Part Time Lover" - Stevie Wonder , "My Ding-a-Ling" - Chuck Berry.

I have on order and awaiting delivery - "Love Potion #9" - The Ventures, "Sugar, Sugar" - The Archies, "Sugar Shack" - Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs, "Let's Twist Again" - Chubby Checker, "Jailhouse Rock" - Elvis, "Heartbreak Hotel" - Elvis and "Twist and Shout" - The Beatles.

I am looking for - "Cumberland Gap" - Lonnie Donegan, "Last Train to Clarksville" - The Monkees, "Proud Mary" - Creedence Clearwater Revival and a few others.

I will need ultimately 50, so would appreciate suggestions.

    Thanks

    Colin

Colin, my Husband has a penchant for Country & Western & has added to his collection from local market stalls, (garage sales are good too)
He copies his to disc & enjoys them that way. I love your idea, wish you every success.

    Hi Wendy.
I, too, enjoy C-W music, however I am not sure it'll fit the above scenario. Some that I have feature - The Tennessee Mountain Boys, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Patsy Cline and Harcus Robbins. Possibly, the only name familiar to him is Patsy Cline.

I am also into Jazz, The Blues, Music of WW1 and 2, The Big Bands as well as music from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I also have Charlie Drake's "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" - but not a copy of "Waltzing Matilda"!!!.

I'm not sure a bout harcus Robbins but the others are all familiar. He has more American that Australian artists. The jazz & blues are another favourite with us both. He's an old rocker!..Me, I just love music, sometimes just the sound of birds outside to get a break from the music inside! (or hide in the sewing rooom with Russell Watson, or maybe Andrea Bocelli)

Perhps you could get a 'Waltzing Matilda' downloaded from the internet if you found yourself wanting it.

Just for a bit of variety, how about some instrumentals: Hoots Mon by Lord Rockingham's XI, In The Mood - Ernie Fields, Patricia - Perez Prado and anything by the Shadows and Duane Eddy. I'm also a trad jazz fan, so given the choice I'd be looking for The Temperance Seven, Chris Barber, Acker Bilk, Ken Colyer et al - but they might not be to everyone's tastes!

    [1962 model]
"Where were you in '62" was the marketing slogan for American Graffiti. The soundtrack of that film would actually make a pretty good juke box collection. And there's no cowboy music in it which is another thing to commend it.

Buddy Holly's Raining in my Heart (or That'll be the Day) and The Everly Brother's Ebony Eyes (or Wake up Little Susie). How about Leader of the Pack by the Shangri-Las

don't forget the Liverpool scene, and one that you must have, We Are The Champions.
Unfortunately I have only one 45 from that period left (and you ain't getting it, sorry). It was "a one hit wonder" called Top Teen Baby by Gary Mills. However I do have 100s on CD and LPs.
