Default James McNally, April 1914 Glasgow, Scotland

    Hi. Can anyone please help.
I am looking for any information on James McNally, born April 1914, Wodrow Street, Glasgow.
Father - James, Mother Mary Conlogue.
As far as i am aware James went to work in England in 1930s. We think he was working in bricklaying or plastering. None of my family know what happened to James once he left Scotland. He was my uncle and I would love to solve the mystery. PLEASE PLEASE help. Thanks. Gerard

Was he born on 14 April 1914? There is a death registration for a James McNally with this date of birth in Southampton Registration District, March quarter 1972 Vol 6b page 1992

Hi Sue. Thanks for your help. YES, 14th April was his birth date. Can you PLEASE clarify how you found this out. Can you please confirm if his parents are the same. I have been working on this for some time Sue.

The information came from the GRO death indexes. These can be searched for free at freebmd.org.uk (though it is a rather painstaking process for 1972 as they haven't been indexed yet) but I have access to the index on Ancestry, where you can enter a date of birth to help you narrow the search. I entered James McNally with a birth in April 1914 and that was the only hit that came up, though the date of birth was only given after about 1970, I believe, so there may have been another James McNally who died before that.

Sadly you would have to purchase the certificate to find out more details. See http://www.british-genealogy.com/ under Death Certificates. I should warn you, however, that unlike death certificates in Scotland, the parents will not be named.

unlike death certificates in Scotland, the parents will not be named.
But there is other information that may help to identify him such as the place of birth. The death certificate may also help to trace any family he might have had in the Southampton area.

    Hi Gerry.
It's always worth 'googling' a name to see what and who else is out there.
Glad I could be of help.
