Default Where would Mary Chilvers be now?

My grandmother, Mary Chilvers died on the 16th April 1943 at 6b Abbey Road Selsdon, Surrey (very little me knew nothing about it), but my father was witness and registered her death. He has since died so I can't ask him.

Mary Vandervelden was born on 10th June 1881 at 56 Victoria Rd, Fulham. She married Frederick Chilvers on 9th July 1900 at the Wandsworth Registry Office. The first of her 11 children was born later that year. Frederick died in 1924, and like Mary's parents, and a number of his children, he was buried at Wandsworth Cemetery. (I have visited the cemetery records office which is how I have all these details about the rest of the family, all of whom died prior to 1925).

Mary spent her life before and after her marriage in the Bermondsey, Fulham, Rotherhithe areas, although her whereabouts 1924-1939 are unknown

Is there anywhere I could find any record of her baptism? I have checked with the local cemeteries for their records, but can find no record of Mary's burial.
Would appreciate any ideas as the family were catholic, the registry marriage was probably influenced by the impending birth of her first child.

    Name: Mary Von Der Velden
Birth: Jul 1881 - Fulham, Greater London, London, Middlesex

    Name: Mary Chilvers
Death: Surrey Mid Eastern, Surrey, England
    Death: Apr-May-Jun 1943

    sorry couldn't find a baptism.

Sandra, it's taken me a while but I find that Selsdon is in Croydon. Mitcham Rd Cemetery seems to be the closest to Selsdon, unless she had Family interests elsewhere. My G'Parents also rest there. (I hope)

Surrey Library (so good) may be able to help you there.

Her local Church at the time of her death would probably have been this (or its predecessor - see website): st-columba.info/ (put http://www in front).

It might be worth contacting them about burials of that period and hers specifically (there are a number of large cemeteries in and near Croydon).

You could try the local newspaper for the area where Mary lived, in the hope that there might be a death announcement with details of where the funeral was to be held. Sometimes you even get reports of funerals, with lists of who was there and who sent wreaths.

Check, too, whether Mary left a will: she may have given instructions there for her funeral arrangements.

There are details about Surrey cemetery records here: http://www.
    sjfisher.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Cemeteries_Surrey.htm

For cemeteries/crematoria maintained by the London Borough of Croydon, there is info here: http://www.

The Local Studies Library in Croydon may be able to help with the newspaper query. Their contact details can be found here: http://www.

Thank you all very much. there's quite a few leads there which will keep me well occupied. I suppose as it was wartime, there are likely a number of 'out of the ordinary' places and people involved.
