    Default CORNWELL KennethCharlesHowis-WW2 ARMY RECORD

    ARMY RECORDS REQD PLEASE
I am posting this as a new thread (I already have ongoing queries for various members of the Cornwell Clan) in the hope that there is someone out there who can help or point me in the right direction to find WW2 army recs without incurring any costs.
Kenneth, (son of Frederick Cornwell (1868-1915) + Adeline Howis (1868-1949)) born 20/10/1896 @ Ticehurst, Sussex. Married Agnes Amelia Adams (date n/k), died in India WW2 - 01/07/1940.
WW2 -he served with Indian Army Ordance Corps, stationed at Bombay, rank - Warrant Officer class 1 'sub conductor', army no 6278251. Buried @ Kirkee Cemetery, India.

I have various other info on him & do not need you to look for any other recs other than the aforementioned Army papers.

Is there anyone who can help me please.
    Many thanks
    Yvonne

    Hello Yvonne,

You will need to contact the Ministry of Defence for WW2 records.

Go to their website by copying the following into your browser and it explains the action that you need to take:

Unforuantely they will want a payment and I paid £40 for my Fathers War record., also they will need proof that you are next of kin etc etc. If the person is still alive, then they themselves will have to apply for the record, if they are deceased, then you have to have proof of death

He was actually in the Indian Army and had 'Indian' nationality even though he was born in England. Would the MoD have his records or would they be elsewhere e.g. the India Office? There is already a biography for him there - see Thread 3.

    Hi Malcolm
Do you have any idea what info is likely to be in the biography ?
I already have an e-mail outstanding to the British Library re a maintenance order I have found in Ken's name, so I think I'll wait until I recv a response to that before contacting them again. I need to know what sort of cost will be involved & unfort if it is too much I/we weill have to give it a pass. It's so frustrating that some info you are able to download without any costs & others prove sooooo expensive - but that's life !!
    Many thanks again
    Y

You will find a reference to K.C.H. Cornwell in A2A: restrict your search to 'British Library, Asia, Pacific and Africa Collections'.

For a guide to India Office records held at the British Library, see http://www.

Sorry I've no idea. I'd contact the India Office at familyhistory-comment@bl.uk and ask them about it and also the cost of a copy.

Spot on, Malcolm. No point writing to the MoD.
