    Default George Spicer maybe?

    Hi

I’ve checked the 1871 for the London area – more chance of finding him with his parents.

I only found one George Spicer with a father of the same name.

    Ref: RG10/539/22 Page 38
Civil Parish: St. George in the East
Address: 69 Cornwall Street (would appear to split into more than one household)

    George – 23 – Head – Council ??aveler – b. St. Geo’ E, Middlesex
    Norah – 23 – Wife – b. St. Geo’ E, Middlesex
    George – 8months – Son – b. St. Geo’ E, Middlesex

Regarding the second word of the occupation, it would be easy to say it starts ‘tr, but if I’m honest the first letter doesn’t look like a ‘t’ – sorry can’t be more help.

In 1881 this may well be George (jnr) with his grand parents.

    Ref: RG11/499/25 Page 44
    Civil Parish: Bromley St. Leonard
    Address: 306 Devons Road

    George – 52 – Head – Greengrocer – b. Mile End, Middlesex
    Ann – 54 – Wife – b. Sharwell, Middlesex
    Alfred – 22 – Son – Unm – General Dealer – b. St. Georges, Middlesex
    George – 10 – Grdson – Unm – Scholar – b. St Georges, Middlesex
    Joseph Smith – 36 – Lodger – Unm – General Dealer – b. St Georges, Middlesex

Hope this may be your particular George and that it gives you something to go on.

    Good luck
    John

There are a few possibilities, difficult to say which might be yours, but have you discarded the following from the 1881 census?

    RG11/0499 f25 p44
306 Devons Rd, Bromley, London, Middlesex
George SPICER, hd, mar, 52, Greengrocer, bn Mile End
Ann Spicer, wf, mar, 54, bn Shadwell
Alfred Spicer, son, unm, 22, general dealer, bn St.Georges, Mdx
George SPICER, grandson, unm, 10, scholar, bn St Georges,, Mdx

    continued.....

    part 2.........

    RG11/0498 f55 p33
36 Fern St, Bromley, London, Middlesex
George SPICER, hd, mar, 32, grease maker, bn St Georges East, Middlesex
Kate SPICER, wf, mar, 28, bn Hackney, Middlesex
Edward SPICER, son, 3, bn Hackney, Middlesex

I'd suggest searching for a birth certifictae for George bc1869 as a first step; and also looking for a marriage certificate for George, senior.

thank-you for the help . i have found georges birth so now i have his birth cert which has given me his mothers maiden name , i have just sent for the parents marriage cert , hoping i will get a date of birth. so i have crawled up the tree a bit. it would have been nice to find them on census returns to see if there was any brothers or sisters.

Good, once you have the marriage certificate - hope that the ages of bride and groom are shown (Sometimes for the mid-19th century you will just get if the parties were minors or "of full age") and this should hopefully then make it easier to identify them in census returns.
