    Default Walter Pritchard 3186572

    Hi

Ok another Pritchard, this time this is one of my Dads Cousins

Walter Pritchard, joined the Kings Own Scottish Borderers 1st Battalion, KIA 17.10.44.
    Grave at Venray Holland.

Would he have been killed in the Market Garden Operation? Any help greatly appreciated by me and my Cousin, his daughter, who lives in Australia.

    Thanks
    Lone Pine

Operation Market Garden was considered to be over by 25th September - there is an interesting PDF produced by the UK MoD about the operation here - http://www.mod.uk/NR/rdonlyres/75C3D...ket_garden.pdf

CWGC in the cemetery info for Venray says that the town was liberated by allied forces in the middle of October - so it seems likely his death was as a result of the fighting then. There are some photos on this website - http://www (dot) liberationchildren.org/lib/south2/index.htm

The war diary for his battalion is at the NA - but it hasn't yet been digitized so it means a personal visit to view it. He is unlikely to be named individually - but it will give an overview of what went on - http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/catal...accessmethod=0

A specialist forum such as WW2 Talk would probably be worth a visit - aah looks like you are there already

    Cheers
    Sue
