Default Marriage for William and Abigail

    Now this is a challenge.
I'm trying to find a marriage for William Jones and Abigail .........

William was born 1793 Hopton Wafers (District of Cleobury Mortimer) Shropshire
Abigail was born abt 1798 Birmingham

I think their first child was born about 1820 so a possible marriage about then or just before.

I've found them in the 41/51/61/71 census and they are living in West Bromwich/Birmingham area.

    Hope someone can help please.

    I'm afraid I haven't found a marriage. I hope this is a little help...

First question: is this William Jones and Abigail with their children in 1841? If it isn't then please ignore the rest of my post.

    1841: HO107 Piece: 977 Book/Folio: 10/37 Page: 2 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)
Miser's Row, West Bromwich North East
    JONES, William 45, blacksmith
    JONES, Abigail 40
    JONES, Thomas 20, Staffordshire
    JONES, Catherine, 15 Staffordshire
    JONES, Lucy, 10 Staffordshire

If this is Lucy's christening ...

    Lucy Jones
    baptism/christening date: 05 Dec 1830
baptism/christening place: Christe Church, West Bromwich, Stafford
    father's name: William Jones
    mother's name: Abigail Eliza

...then mum has a middle name Eliza? Which appears to be confirmed by the following death record.

    Deaths Sep 1875 W. Bromwich 6b 424
    JONES Abigail Eliza
    Age 77

I was just thinking that perhaps they a child before 1820 ...

    John Jones
    baptism/christening date: 23 Nov 1817
    baptism/christening place: Milson, Shropshire
    father's name: William Jones
    mother's name: Abigail Eliza

Which puts the marriage a little earlier and thus narrows the marriage window slightly, say to about 1815 +/-2 if she was born about 1798. Unless of course Abigail married tremendously young. Sorry I haven't found a marriage. I will have one more go at it later.

Thank you so much for all your efforts.

The 1841 census is what I have. William was a Blacksmith. Although in 1871 I think it was he decides he's a Gentleman.

The birth of John in 1817 is interesting as Milson is near Hopton Wafers and Cleobury Mortimer where William was born so maybe they married there.

    Will start a new search.

Found both William and Abigail on the probate calendar but neither of them left a will. They were both Admins.

William died in 1872 and Abigail Eliza died 1875. In Abigail's case Administration was granted to Thomas Jones, Blacksmith, one of the next of kin.
So does that mean Thomas was the eldest child or perhaps John had died.

    Still can't find a marriage.

Looking for a possible baptism for Abigail Eliza born about 1798 Birmingham:

The IGI shows an Abigail Eliza Cartwright (daughter of John & Margaret) baptised 13 Dec 1797 at Birmingham St Phillip. I haven't yet found anything else about her, but it might be worth trying to see what became of her.

    Thanks Coromandel. That looks promising.

    I'll follow it up
