    Question HULLAH of Leeds area

I am interested in Ellen Hullah born 11, Ebony Street, Hunslet, Leeds on 24 Sep 1876 who married William Britton 10 Oct 1896 at Wesley Chapel, Meadow Lane, Leeds. She seems to have gone off radar - not in 1901 or 1911 census though she had a son Wilfred Britton b20 Jul 1897 at 10, Chesney View, Hunslet, Leeds.
Wilfred reappeared in 1918 having served with worcestershire Regiment in Ireland when married and in 1923 emigrated to Western Australia.
Anyone know about the Hullah family?

In the 1901 census, mother and child would appear to be in Hunslet

If William was born in Holbeck c1874 then Wilfred seems to be living with his aunt Esther (a widow) in Rugby in 1911.

The ‘National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918’ on findmypast has Lt W. Britton, Worcestershire Regt serving in France and being twice wounded at Loos 1916. Awarded General Service and Victory medals. “Ultimately discharged” in 1919. Address 1, Elm Place, Hunslet, Leeds.

The Elm Place address might be a clue if you haven't got it already.

Could you tell me Esther's surname as your record does not come up under Esther Britton in the 1911 Find my Past Census

    William was born in Holbeck.

    Appreciate you help.

I have searched 1901 Ancestry Census records and drawn a blank - no sign. How do I use the reference you gave to access what you found?

    Hello Michael

You can get to the census image by searching for Fred Hullah born 1891. It’s the first result.

Michael, to use census references on Ancestry: go to 'census collection', scroll down the page where there's a list of censuses by country and year, click on 'England 1901' you'll be presented with boxes to fill out with details of who you are looking for, when you have the census ref you can ignore name boxes etc and just fill out the census ref boxes at the bottom under 'FAMILY MEMBERS'. I hope I've explained with clarity.

It isn't obvious whether you have this 1881 census, but as the family are transcribed as Hallah I thought it worth posting in case you don't have the census record.
