Exclamation 6, Old Market Place, Sudbury, Suffolk

In 1881 Joseph GREEN (House decorator and Innkeeper) resided at 6, Old Market Place, Sudbury, Suffolk. Can anyone point me to a source where I might find the name of the Inn.

I am interested to see that his ten-year-old daughter (Ada Priscilla GREEN) is employed as an assistant barmaid. Putting aside any comments that might arise from placing that fact in a modern context, how common would that have been at that time?

According to the following source, the pub was called the George , previously known as the George & Dragon.

Looks like they got their data from ...

I wouldn't have thought it was particularly unusual to employ a 10 year as an assistant barmaid, given also that she was a family member. There was an interesting BBC documentary called "The Children Who Built Victorian Britain." I believe it is currently on Iplayer. It didn't mention barmaids as far as I can remember but it did go a little into child labour laws and allowable working hours. Just a thought if you are interested.
