Default The wreck of the Tredegar, 1863

I am trying to find out any details about the wreck of the ship Tredegar in 1863. I think the master was John Syner.

    From another board:

Newport, Dec.7. - The Tredegar, of and from this port for Bristol, capsized and sunk off Clevedon on the 2d. inst.; one man drifted ashore on a plank. Master and three of crew drowned. The Times, Wednesday, Dec 09, 1863.

Looks like your guy did not survive

This was an article about rewards voted to a number of men for rescuing people from wrecks ...

... the only survivor of the sloop Tredegar was observed on a plank near the shore, off Walton, and was suddenly seen to be washed off. A fisherman named Charles Bacon, immediately rushed into the surf to his rescue. He was found insensible, but Bacon succeeded nevertheless in bringing him ashore, and afterwards, with some help, in conveying the poor man to a cottage.

    Hi Redhunter
There is someone on Roots chat that has info on the Tredegar and even some photos of the wreck.
User name Bristolloggerhead. I see that you are also a user.

I am hoping to have the story published next year. One of the crew did survive but didn't attend the inquest as he was working on board another vessel at the time.
