    Default Goldsmith apprentice records Bristol

Does anyone know if / where records are kept of apprentice goldsmiths, and goldsmiths in Bristol for the early 1700s?

If there are any records to be found they will be at Bristol Record Office. Have a look at this

You may find something useful in the Bristol Burgess Books, available on CD from the Bristol & Avon FHS.

    bafhs.org.uk/shop/bur.htm (put www. in front)

Alternatively, if you're in London you can see the same data on microfiche (indexed) at the Society of Genealogists' library. A visitor fee is payable by non-members.

.........and also if you want to work from original records............Apprenticeships were subject to tax in the 18th century. The records from 1710/11 to 1754 are available on CD from The Parish Chest.

An early entry will tell you who was apprenticed, the name of his/her father and the name of the master and the trade/craft/skill as well as tax, length of term and a date. The entries are listed in date order.
