    Hi Fiona

When I look at Anc* "Bogue Chitto" comes up as Lincoln, Mississipi.

There is an "Ila L Summers, Beat 2, Lincoln" born around 1914

She is shown as sister to the head of household, Elmer Summers

Could this be the person you're looking for?

Alternatively if you let me have approx date of birth I can try again for you

    Julie

Thanks Julie, that certainly could be her, unfortunately I know nothing about her except the address which was in an old address book. I am actually looking for Otis Summers...... who I know nothing about except he was in the USAF in WW2. I was hoping that she would be his mother and they would be at the same residence in 1930 :-)

The only Otis Summers coming up for Lincoln, Mississippi is living in "Beat 1, Lincoln", with mother Elizabeth who is shown as married, though no sign of her husband. Also present are daughter Neline (?) and mother of Elizabeth, Nancy McDowell.

Otis was born abt 1916, aged 14 at time of census, born in Mississippi, so I guess this would have made him the right age to have been in WW2.

    Any use?

Yes I think so....... L Summers could be Liz Summers and it is in the right area. Thank you so much for your help.

Fiona67 - just in case you don't know you can do lots of USA census research at https://www.familysearch.org/

There are 61 Otis Summers listed for 1930, 441 for 1920, 344 for 1910 etc.

There are also state census records, and others too. This should help you focus your research

So, for example, the first record for Otis Summers in Lincoln Mississippi shows the 1920 Census, and it looks like your family i.e.

    Father: S Benn Summers
    Mother: Elizabeth Summers
Children: Cecil, Willard, Winnie, Ice (?), Meline and Otis himself
(all above with ages, and you can click on each individual for more information)

Thanks Bertie, I found that after I posted the request.... they have certainly made some big additions to the Familysearch now haven't they :-)
