    Default The Shamrock

The Shamrock was a paper published in New York, New York in the early
1800's giving the Irish there a bit of news from home... mostly of marriages and deaths.
I have been reading exerts and several gave me a chuckle... especially this marriage in the Sat. Dec. 29, 1810 edition..
At Augher, by the Rev. Edward M'ARDLE, Parish Priest of Clogher, Mr. Garret
ROONEY, aged 96, to Miss M'GOHEY, only 16 years of age.

I wonder if he survived his wedding night

If it hadn't been for the remark "only 16 years of age I would have thought it was probably a misprint - but it seems factual

Guess SHE knew what side her potatoes were buttered on.

I wonder if there are any decendants? Anybody here claim them for their ggggrandparents?

Another interesting paper was the Connaught Journal.. I believe from county Galway... some gruesome court cases chronicled in it.
