Red face Thicthener/Eydman Marriage St Mary Islington

Have been hitting the big brick wall for some months now and hoping someone will take pity on us!!
Have record of marriage between William Thicthener and Elizabeth Eydman on 8th October 1798 @ St Mary Islington. I know the transcription for this record was detailed as Thicthemier but unable to find any variation on the surname for William's birth(around 1770-7) or death (around 1861). The marriage details came from St Mary Islington Register of Marriages which I understand is original data from Church of England Parish Registers 1754-1921. Elizabeth we believe was Christened in Islington, B1776?
    Variants of name include Titchener/Thitchener/Titchiner/Titchner
Any help most gratefully received - Thanks in anticipation

The transcription is Thicthener and that is exactly what the original looks like.
The banns in the September are transcribed as Shicthener but the reverend has very clear and lovely writing which states Thicthener.

If you have access to Ancestry, there are several census references, a lot of Thicthener marriages and births, 24 references on UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 37 in their Phone Books and 2 on the National Probate Calendar.

Do you know if they had any children?

Don't know if you have already seen this, but could this be one of their children (from Ancestry's London Parish Registers):

Born 16 May, baptised 7 July 1811 at St James Clerkenwell Emma THISTHENER daughter of William & Elizabeth

Two burials, both at St John Hampstead of an Emma Lucy THICTHENER in 1865 and a Lydia Harper THICTHENER in 1867

Any idea what the family members did for a living? - This may give ideas as to possible records to try.

Have you found any of the family in census returns? - This may help to limit the search period for a death and possible location for a birth.

Elizabeth THICTHENER, aged 85, is shown as a mother-in-law in Stepney in 1861 (RG09; 295; 109; 15). It looks as if her daughter Mary married into a family of timber merchants.
Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.

If she married into a family of merchants it might be worth looking for the family in some sort of business in census and directories. If they can be found in business, did they leave wills?

I wonder if they took out insurance for a business in Shadwell? - click here

Perhaps there is a PCC will for your chap? - click here for a few possibilities - don't forget there may have been probate granted by a lower court.

If your chap left a will when he popped his clogs - maybe his dad did the same and handed on a family business? If a will was left it may provide some insights as to where to proceed with further research.

This looks like a couple more baptisms to William & Elizabeth at St James, Clerkenwell:

Born 11 September, baptised 27 September 1818 Mary Ann THICTHENER daughter of William & Elizabeth, Peartree St, Watch Maker

Baptised 16 February 1817 Eliza THICTHNER daughter of William & Elizabeth, Peartree St, Watchmaker

The will of Richard THITCHENER of the parish of St George Hanover Square was proved in the Consistory Court of the Diocese of London in June 1790.

The will is held at the London Metropolitan Archives. The index to this series of wills can be viewed or downloaded from this page (scroll to the bottom). A printout from the register copy of the will can then be ordered online from LMA by quoting the name, date and microfilm reference found in the index.

What a wonderful resource! I don't want to hijack the thread, but I've just found a will I'd like to order. I can't seem to find the page on the website on which I would order the will. (Am I correct in thinking that the LMA will mail me the printout?)
