FORTH as surname

Hi there

Every time I try to search using this surname FORTH the message comes up its too long, short or common. does this mean i can't search this surname?

As you can see I'm new to this forum so not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

I also had no success with the Forth name Katie123. If you have a 'few' minutes to spare, go to ARCHIVE down the bottom of page just above the Parish Chest logo. click on it you'll get all of the Forums now in Archive. Family History & click on SURNAME INTERESTS. There are 8 pages worth but who knows? you may strike it lucky. May even find a name you need but didn't know it.

Unfortunately the search engine has limitations on the forum. Try going to google then do a search for "british genealogy.com" and "forth"

I have Forths in my family tree, mostly from Crowland Lincolnshire. Try searching in the County.

It's always a problem when the surname you are researching is a common English word. You could try following the link that Ronone has posted and then hitting Advanced Search. Then under "But don't show pages that have.." type in the following phrases, all in inverted commas.
"back and forth" "and so forth" "Firth of Forth"
This should at least cut down the number of hits.

To exclude terms, simply precede the term with a minus sign eg

Hi Katie
I wonder how you got on with the Forth's. If it is of any use the most frequent name in my tree is Forth (they had a lot of children)
My lot come from County Durham, but originated in Leeds as Firth. If this of any use come back to me.
