Just had an email about their upgrade to searching for mariages. Thought I would try it out so I tried with my name and my wife and it came up as it should. Then tried with the names of some old friends and it says "no match found" - tried with just one name and it finds them but with any part of the spouse named it fails to find the marriage, even though it's there and correct.
Be aware it does not seem to work properly at the moment.

David,
Did you minutely check the details against each spouse?
It only finds one aunt and uncle's marriage if I search for them individually. But that's because the GRO managed to record an incorrect district against uncle's name. So if any one of the district, volume and/or page number don't match you will get 'no match found', which is not an FMP fault, but down to the inadequacy of the GRO registers. Ditto if there is a problem with the spelling of the names, or the initials.

Pam,
Thank you for that info. I thought it would only search by the names and not all the other data.
There is indeed a mistake in this one I was looking for. The page numbers are different on the images of the typed GRO index listing.

Like David I tried names I already knew about but it was very hit and miss ......... .... I got 3 pages of 1860 with just ?? as well
still early days bit disappointing but things usually improve with age!

I also got three pages of ??? and 1860 at one stage last night, but can't remember exactly what I had in the search boxes at the time to try and replicate it.
What it is extremely useful for is that for marriages prior to 1912, when the GRO began to enter the spouse name into the record, is that if you search for Fred Bloggs marrying between, say, 1871 and 1875, you'll get a list of all the Fred Bloggs, and when you click on one of them you're given the GRO Index reference plus it then says 'Fred married one of the following people - Mary Smith, Florence Green' and then with a bit of luck, you'll get another man's name, i.e. the groom of the other bride. So it's a bit like a complete FreeBMD. Though as David and I have both proved, still subject to the same errors and omissions made by the GRO itself which cause havoc on FreeBMD.
FMP do warn you to check the details on the image before ordering a certifcate.

With the paid sub or pay as you go are you lucky enough to see parent's names as well?

Thanks Kerrywood...
More wishful thinking on my part!
It seems every country has its good points and bad points when it comes to searching.
