Hi
A friend has found several medals and has asked if anybody could give her any clue's on the owner as she has no idea how this person is related to her. They were found in her late mothers home in the Dukinfield area of Cheshire. This is the information on one of the boxes.
J.T. Broadbent
British War Victory Medal
M26826 ACT-ERA4RN
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The medal relates to Joseph Taylor BROADBENT, bn 18 April 1895 at Hyde, Cheshire
He was an ERA4 (Engine Room Artificer 4th class) in the Royal Navy. His service record may be downloaded here. He appears to have survived the War.
He was the son of Thomas BROADBENT who probably married Martha TAYLOR in March quarter 1888 at Ashton, Joseph had a surviving elder sister Martha Alice born about 1889 (who appears to have married William RILEY in 1911).
In 1891, Thomas and family were living in Queen Street, Ashton-under-Lyne - RG12/3295 f138 p36
Thomas BROADBENT, hd, mar, 24, Cotton Operative, bn Mossley, Lancs
Martha Broadbent, wf, mar, 26, Cotton Operative, bn Mossley, Lancs
Martha A Broadbent, daughter, 2, bn Micklehurst, Cheshire
Joseph NEWSOME, brother-in-law, mar, 21, painter, bn Mossley, Lancs
Ruth Newsome, sister, mar, 21, Cotton Operative, bn Mossley
(Original census Crown Copyright, in care of TNA).
Anything helpful there?

Without giving away details of living people, does the person who now has the medal appear to be related and thus able to give the medal a good home? - I do hope so.

Yes Geoffers this person does appear to be related - still working on how? The medal will be staying with the family along with the others that were with it.

Hi Scoobie
As this medal find has just come to light, it needs a lot more re-search. So i do not know if their is any connection with Wimpennys or Newsomes?
