My late father-in-law served from 1938 to June 1941 in the Merchant Service.
He was discharged on medical grounds, having survived a torpedo attack, in June 1941 and was we believe hospitalised for some months.
Having traced his seaman's papers at Kew with the various ships he served on we could not easily transcribe or identify his port of discharge. It looked something like Monterilus.
My simple question at this stage is Where is Monterilus?
The only documentation we have is for a shore pass dated Jan 1941 for San Pedro.
Any suggestions or information welcomed
Thanks

Do the Shipping Movement Cards help at all?
Could the place be Montreal?

I think I may have to go back to his discharge records to confirm some details but here are the ships he served on and signing on ports
San Quirino (146516) May 1938 South Shields
161137 May 1939 Birkenhead
Hindustan 165784 March 1941 Immingham
16405 April 1941 Liverpool
El Argentino 3/5/1941
Discharge 3/6/1941 Monterilus?
He had two discharge numbers R171684 and R 226981
All the above from his seaman's record cards at Kew.
Thanks for suggestions so far

El Argentino appears in the Shipping Movement cards previously mentioned.
The sort of detail incldued in the card can be found in this example
You might also try a search of TNA's catalogue to see if the port name is included in the convoy lists
In the word or phrase field enter - Argentin*
Limit the year range to 1940-1942
In the department or series code enter - ADM199
(The reason for searching for 'Argentin*' is to allow for the name being transcribed as Argentino, Argentine or Argentina)

EL ARGENTINO was a refrigerated cargo ship operation between UK and Montevideo and Buenos Aires, not a movement card location. However she was not torpedoed until July 1943 so his discharge could have been for other reasons.
