    Can anyone explain what em'ee means. I've come across it on numerous in occasions while searching through census records but have not been able to find an explanation for the term. Also, is there a site anywhere that lists such terms and their meaning

    If it's in the Occupation column, perhaps Employee

    This page lists some abbreviations and other terms found in the census.
