I agree totally Wendy. It's a site which I've often used in the past to gain an insight into the lives of our mining ancestors.

As well as Durham I have ancestors who worked in mining in Shropshire and Yorkshire and, if I may, I'd like to add another useful site which covers the United Kingdom as a whole

What is particularly useful about the above is a searchable database of 164,000 people killed or injured in mining accidents so covers not just the major disasters but the one off isolated incidents (of which there were very many). Thanks to this site I was able to discover the death of one of my ancestors who was crushed when a corph fell on him at the Victoria Colliery in Wakefield.
