Hi there,
I posted a few months ago about my search for James Macy Warren however, I have since discovered that the "Macy" is a Red Herring and is most likely a misreading of some convict documents. I believe his middle name is actually "Hambleton" instead.
Anyway, I've come across someone else who is related to James via his second marriage, and she'd come up with some information relating to James's parents and siblings. Using that as a base - I did some more searching of my own, and came up with a long list of probable siblings for James, but didn't find any birth details for James himself! There was a nice gap in the list of probable siblings right where I'd be expecting James to slot in, as well.
I've recently found that the IGI includes reference to a baptism of James David William Hambleton WARNER at Beddington with Wallington, Sry in 1808
Beddington with Wallington is a mere 3mi from Carshalton (where he said he was from), one of the other probable siblings appears in the same batch, he's the right age, he has the right middle name, and if the other person's information is correct - the first names of the parents are right, too.
It's just that the last name is wrong. But "Warner" is an easy typo to make from "Warren", and they sort of sound a bit similiar ish...
I think the odds are quite high that this is in fact the person I am looking for (but I am a researcher and I want facts not odds)
How does one find out which church a batch relates to? I have attempted googling churches in Beddington with Wallington and got confused... Or is there any other way of confirming that the last name is spelled incorrectly and this is indeed the chap I have been looking for??? Or do I just have to take a punt on the basis of probabilities?
Regards,
Jodi

Hi Biggirlsblouse
I can go to the Surrey Record Office at the end of next week if that helps. I need all the information for what I should look for, perhaps that will through light on it

I have a lot of Warrens in my family and have defiantely seen it transcribed as WARNER. Not proof obviously but maybe some encouragement!

Hi Jodi
I live in the Carshalton area and the boundary to Beddington almost overlaps! I know the local churches and when I get to the record office I will check those Parish Registers.
I need to be clear of who are James parents if you know, if not I will look for that baptism in 1808 and hopefully the siblings. Was James still in the area when he got married?
Unfortunately it will be at the end of next week before I get chance.
