    There is a baptism In St.Michael's, Highgate on 11 May 1761 for a Thomas HANCOCK, son of William and Elizabeth, and a baptism for another Thomas HANCOCK in All Hallows, Tottenham on 29 June 1761, son of Thomas and Elizabeth. Sadly neither original image lists an exact date of birth.

    Will go an have a look at Oxford and Cambridge alumni. A doctor might well have attended.

    What was the date of the ship wreck? He appears still to have been in England in 1820, as the Times Digital Archive has a reference in the edition of 3 June 1820 to a Thomas HANCOCK MD being appointed to the Committee of the Society for the Improvement of Prison Discipline and for the Reformation of Juvenile Offenders.

    His tombstone in Union, South Carolina, found on the website findagrave (dot) com, indicates that he immigrated in 1793. I also saw a message on another forum (can't find it right now) that the shipwreck happened when he returned to England to take care of some estate business.

    There's a Thomas Hancock in Union, South Carolina on the 1810 US census.

    The household is composed of:
    Free white male under 10 = 1
    Free white male 45 and over = 1
    Free white female 16 to 25 = 1
    Slaves = 3
