    Default RAF help please

    Hi
Ive recently found an old address book and found my great uncles name and RAF no in it, I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to be able to tell me more please.

LAC BROWN WILLIAM 1287025 - address was 313 MV RAF INDIA (somethings crossed out and I can read it im afraid)
I know he was born 26 dec 1913 Lewisham (at least I think this birthday goes with this William Brown - theres three of them)

Any info on this chap would be brilliant
    thank you
    Maz

To begin with have a read through this TNA signpost on RAF airmen - click here

In particular read the section on service records after 1922 and its link through to the Veterans UK web-site.

You may be able to confirm if the dte of birth is correct by searching the GRO index of births.

Obtaining his service record from as per Geoffers message is the best option but while your waiting you could try this site, just add www.

    rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27

Some very knowledgeable and helpful people, the link above should narrow down when he joined the RAF.

Probably not much help to you but his rank would be Leading Aircraftsman, MV probably stands for Motor Vehicle, either MT driver or mechanic. The number is fairly early for conscription post war and if he had entered at minimum age it would have been arround 1931/2. I doubt this helps much but others have given you valid pointers. I'm just talking as an ex RAF bod.

Keith9351's post was excellent. I checked in there and found my intake at RAF Cardington from the reference list of numbers. This might not find your Uncle specifically but would certainly hone it down for you.
