Question Private G E Higham Royal Warwickshire Regt

Please could anyone help with information on a George E Higham who was a Private in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War. His Army Number was 24657.

The reason I am trying to find out about him is that we have found a couple of items with his name on among my late father-in-law’s things. We don’t know if this person is any relation to my husband’s family – it’s not a name I’ve heard from any of the older generation (who are now mostly dead or unfortunately too forgetful to be of any help )

FreeBMD shows the births of four people with this name who would have been old enough to have fought in 1914-18.

    1881 in Rugby
    1887 in Paddington
    1893 in Daventry
    1894 in Brackley
(There are of course others without the middle initial )

As there’s a branch of my husband’s family, Ward, in Rugby, I’m inclined to think it may be the one born there, or possibly the one in Daventry, which isn’t that far away – or I may be barking up the wrong tree completely…

Have you tried this name in the 1901 census & compared it with 1911?

His records do give his marriage date of 08.12.1915 - Rugby.

FreeBMD marriages have a George E HIGHAM marrying a Olive M INGRAM in Dec Q 1915, Rugby.

A search for Olive INGRAM in Rugby in 1911 will provide some helpful information.

Many thanks to all who have replied with such helpful info.

I haven't got a sub to Ancestry but I belong to the library and look at it there. I'm hoping that some of the clues will lead me to discover whether George has a connection with my other half's lot.

If it turns out that he hasn't, we'll try to find out if he has any living relations who would like to have the items.

    Hi Squaredancer,
I have good reason to believe that George E Higham is related to my own family, and that he is the one born in Daventry in 1893.
I know he had connections with Rugby and i still live in the town.
    Please PM me more info.

    Hi jinga

Have sent PM as requested but unless there's any reason to keep anything secret (like details of living people) maybe we could continue on here, as there may well be others interested - there were a number of replies to my original post.
