Default another opie I cannot find

    Hi to all

again still researching my Opie ancestry and am following each female through to see if they changed their names to Minnie at any time
I can find a Jenny Wheeler Opie birth for 1869 in Plymouth with father Alfred (Ithink)
problem is I cannot find her on any census nor death, marriage or emigration

    can anyone help ?

Can you give a bit more detail - e.g an approximate age/birth and where you obtained it. I presume Minnie must be mentioned in some record - can you state what record and the basic details from that.
Opie is a common surname in Cornwall for example, so perhaps she came from here - Plymouth is only over the Tamar river from East Cornwall.

    Hi
I know as I am from Plymouth myself as are my mother, gran etc
I cannot find Minnie Opie for the birth date I have according to her death cert so I can only assume she changed her name sometime
she was meant to be an orphan so may well have changed her name to Minnie from something else

Does anyone know why some names cannot be found other than a birth record?
surely they would be on some records
the Jenny Wheeler Opie I am looking at was born circa 1869 in Plymouth and her parents were Alfred and (Elizabeth) I think

The dangers of using the baptism date as the birth date

    Births Jun 1868
OPIE Jenny Wheeler Plymouth 5b 258

I cannot find a death or marriage for her.

As a last resort you could buy the certificate

Cert shows who her parents were. I have just been looking for Opie marriages in Plymouth John 1864 and Henry 1868
Does not fit with your Alfred & Elizabeth.
If you can trace the parents on the census you might discover more about her or at least know where to look.

no, that one married someone other than my g grandfather (John Williams) and my Minnie had her first child in 1893 - second in 1898 so would have been married by then tho i cannot find a marriage for her and John Williams
and I think the Alfred Opie was married to an Elizabeth on the 1891 census

I see an Alfred and Elizabeth Opie in the 1871 census in Plymouth with lots of children but no Jenny. A long shot perhaps but could Jenny have died and been registered under this name?
Death Sep 1868 Jane Opie Plymouth 5b 170
    Died age 0.
The nearest Jane Opie birth around 1868 for the whole country is
Birth Sep 1867 Jane Opie Redruth 5c 236
However, it looks like this Jane is happily living in Redruth with parents Thomas and Caroline in the 1871 cenus.

So who was the Jane who died age 0 in 1868? Anyway, could be a red herring.

You were looking for a Minnie Opie but I can't see a birth date in your post. Forgive me if you've already ruled this out but there was a Minnie Opie born abt 1867 in Redruth.

that seems a good shot actually
the minnie opie you refer to died in 1875
I have gone through all possibilities over the years - even visited all records offices in devon and cornwall
so i am concluding that she was either adopted within the family and used the opie surname or used minnie as a name she liked, this she used all her life
her death was in 1932 aged 55
on census she was born in cornwall but lived in plymouth from 1893 at least when maud (her 1st daughter) was born
