(I would have posted in the Adoption thread, but this is for after 1900.)
I had a look at the 1911 census yesterday and discovered in 1911, my great great grandfather, William Ashford and his wife Maria Charlotte adopted a child by the name of Jennie Violet Graham, born in 1908, London.
How can I go about finding out more about this? I have never come across an adoption before, would it be possible to find out why she was put up for adoption or when exactly they took her in?
This has stumped me a little..
Thanks,
Mandy

Tracing adoption is difficult, especially before 1927.
Have a look at this TNA research signpost
Adoption may be the result of an informal arrangement.
Adoption of a relative's child.
Adoption arranged through a church or some other organisation.
