Default 1851 Census Lookup - Please

I've recently found my GGG Grandfather, Jacob LAWTON, and his third wife Mary living at Millgreen, Lyme Regis on the 1861 & 1871 censuses and some possible relatives living just down the road from them.

In the 1841 census he is living in Watford, Hertfordshire with his second wife Charlotte and children from both of his marriages but as yet I have not been able to locate them in the 1851 census.

Could SKS look and see if the family were there in 1851.

This is the entry from the 1861 census:

LAWTON Jacob Head M 70 Silk Throwster Cheshire, Stockport
LAWTON Mary Wife M 55 Herts, St Albans

    Thanks,
    Stu

    Kmdward,

Looks like he's playing hard to find again.

    Thanks for checking.

    Hello Stuart
You might find it better to look at the 1851 census for Dorset, rather than Devon, as Lyme Regis is in Dorset
    Best wishes
    Ann

    Ann,

That's exactly what I did and there were no replies.

Then I remembered that my GGG Grandfather's death certificate showed the county as "Devon and Dorset" so I checked the National Archives catalogue for Lyme Regis and Ref. HO 107 and this is what I found.

Subseries within HO 107 1851 Census
    Subsubseries within HO 107 DEVONSHIRE
    HO 107/1862 Devonshire
    Registration District: 279. AXMINSTER
    Registration Sub-District: 1 Lyme
    Parish: Lyme Regis(Dors) Hamlet: Colway

It seems that parts of Dorset came under the Devon census, that's why I posted the request in the Devon forum.

    Regards,
    Stu

    Hello Stu
Well, as I've said many times before, you live and learn I had no idea that Lyme Regis was included in the 1851 Census of Devon - but I do now. Sorry I can't help with your Lawtons, I know what it's like to have ancestors with itchy feet
