John Lawrence (pawnbroker Liverpool)

I have John (b 1782 in Lincs) and daughter Mary K. (born 1821 in LP) living at 10 Bridgewater St in 1861. I have also seen the family in the 1851 index which also has an Ann Lawrence. Does someone have access to 1841/51 census details (the 1851 index seems to omit ages at times and I am not sure whether Ann is wife or daughter)?

Yes, I got them some while back. Thank you very much for your offer. Still looking for John's wife- it appears that she died before 1841. I think that he married in Liverpool before 1818 (he was from Lincolnshire but didn't seem to have married there).

Just thought, did you also get the 1841 census? As a pawnbroker, John Lawrence may well have been listed in the trade directories. If so, they may give a clue to when he came to Liverpool.

I haven't seen the 1841 census (in 1851 he was at Bridgewater St) but he appears in a (mid 40s) trade directories as a pawnbroker and tape manufacturer. His two daughters were, according to the census, b in Liverpool about 1820 but he doesn't seem to be in the 1828/9 directory on the Leicester Univ. site. Would love to see the 1841 entry!

I am also looking for the entry for the following family in Liverpool; Hugh Ross (bootmaker- 1828/9 in Pool Lane), wife Mary and son Andrew (b 1833). Maybe other children.

Done my exercise for the day! John Lawrence, pawnbroker & measuring tape manufacturer is at 10 Bridgewater st in 1853, 1849, 1845. Same address 1841 & 1839, but not a pawnbroker, just a measuring tape manufacturer. 1837 at 75 Bridgewater St (not pawnbroker). 1834 & earlier, no John.

Thank you so much for your efforts. To put things in perspective, John Laurence was the twin of my 3 x ggf and Hugh Ross, my 3 x ggf. I am finding it difficult to take the Ross family back in time- I suspect that both Hugh and his wife (Mary?) died sometime between 1841 and 1851. I find the info on Rosses as bootmakers very interesting as this implies some sort of family connection. You found a Henry Ross at 58 Pool Lane in the 1820s; this is the same address I found for Hugh in an 1828/9 directory (on the Leicester U site). Anyone, any chance of a look for Hugh in the 1841 census, using his 1839 address??
