Carpenters in the 18th century.

Hello. Can any one help me please . my ancestor Robert Rand was a carpenter in Oxfordshire. he was born in 1710 and died in 1768. where would he have learned his trade. could his father have been a carpenter and he learned the from his father or could he have been apprenticed to some one . are there any records i could check . thank you.

His father might have been a carpenter but he would still have had to be apprenticed, I think. I don't know about apprenticeships but this is a link to the information pages about apprenticeships from The National Archives:
