Default "The Cambrian" - Swansea, Wales

Several years ago, a cousin obtained, an email outlinimg several items that were in the Cambrian Index Online.

Today, I searched the index for myself, covering the period from July 1, 1863 to December 31, 1886 I found only 1 entry and that was for an item on July 17, 1863 which had noted to my cousin as "No other details available".

The other items related to 4 instances of criminal activty and I instance of an Inquest into a death. Presumably I would require the Index # to acquire a copy as these records are kept in the Reference Library in Swansea.

On Ay [in the "England & Wales, Criminal Registers 1791-1892], I found 5 other criminal acts for a lady bearing the same name - Minwairing - between January 1867 and December 1877 all of which resulted in terms of inprisonment. It seems reasonable that such events would have been reported in the Cambrian at that time and later put into the project.

Is the project not complete? If it is, how do I find out more? I have sent an email to the City of Swansea - Archives and hope to hear back in the next few days. I wonder if others can assist me in finding out these details.

    Thanks
    Colin

you try writing to Jeff Coleman at jeff DOT coleman AT ntlworld DOT com - he is actively involved in transcribing the Cambrian index. He is also the administrator of the Rootsweb Glamorgan mailing list. Jeff will probably be able to help you. You may also want to try the name MAINWARING as well as MINWARING.

    Hi Colin,

You've probably had a reply to your emails by now, but the Cambrian Index is complete. You can email the archive requesting which articles you're interested in and they can locate them and send you copies for a fee (which I can't remember for the life of me!)

I used to volunteer there and a lot of my time was spent locating requested Cambrian articles on the microfiche.

Like you have said, it would seem the indexing project is complete. The question now is this Why was the following item on an email dated November 11, 2001 and worded as follows "8 Deptember 1864 Inquest "John Mainwaring" run over by wagons, also page 5" - not show up now?

It seems reasonable does it not that If I can't find the reference now, it either a] did not exist or b] was missed in the later update of the index?

In your opinion, should I contact them citing the information that was obtained almost 9 years ago and in bold above?

    Thanks in advance
    Colin

Searching The Cambrian index online, I found this:

    Journal: Cambrian
    Catalogue Index: F56
Index description: Disasters and Accidents, Accidents, Mining Accidents
    Journal date: 08 September 1865
Text: Inquest re John Mainwaring, 14, run over by waggons, Mynydd-Bach-y-Glo Colliery. P5
