I have read that not all mine owners in County Durham locked their miners out at the start of the General Strike in 1926. Some collieries may have continued to work. My late grandfather worked as an "engineman" at West Stanley at that time. The pit was owned by the Burns family and was sometimes known as the Burns pit. Can anyone tell me whether there was a lock-out as West Stanley please? And when production resumed?
