Hi all,
I've been trying to breakdown the brickwall surrounding my gt gt grandfather John Lewis. I now know that he was born in Gloucester in 1799 and died in Council St, Kingsholm. I suspect that he was also born in this area.
His second marriage was to Sophia Robinson in 1860, she was approx 30 years his junior. On his marriage certificate he is listed as an Iron Moulder, his father, who was also called John Lewis was a carpenter journeyman. John (junior) was a widower when he married Sophia - but I haven't been able to find any info for John before this marriage.
I have found a John Lewis baptised in Kingsholm in 1801 in the on-line Gloucester BMD site - his parents were John Lewis and Mary Kellow - this could be him??
After his death (lung disease) Sophia continued to live in Council st and later remarried.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find info about John before his marriage to Sophia? I can't find him on any of the Census docs other than 1861.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
thanks
Jilly

As Jilly's new thread today titled " John Lewis - Still a Gloucester Brickwall " concerns the same man as an earlier thread, I have merged the two threads to avoid duplication of research & effort by forum members.
