Hoping someone out there may be able to advise me re names.
My husband's 3 x gt grandfather was a James McConnell born 1800 in Scotland according to the Censuses. We know he had a sister Janet born circa 1812 because on one census return she was living with James and his family. On both the IGI and Scotlands People I can find a birth/baptism for a James McConnell in 1800 to Thomas McConnel and Agnes Robison but I can't find a birth for sister Janet. What I can find , again on both the IGI and Scotlands People, is a birth for a Janet daughter of Thomas McConnel and Agnes Robertson. Both births/baptisms took place in Kirkcudbright.
Would I be presuming too much that Agnes Robison and Agnes Robertson are one and the same. So far I haven't found a marriage. Anyone any ideas?

Emeltree, it may just have been a case of the person reporting the birth not speaking clearly, maybe there was a time lapse between birth & registration if done by another party,ie Clergy or midwife .......or the person with the pencil not listening properly. Has happened many times.

I was thinking along those lines myself, Waitabit. I have found several children born to Thomas and either Agnes Robertson or Agnes Robison. No two dates are the same so it looks like all one family. I just wish I could find a marriage for them, if only to confirm if she was a Robertson or a Robison. James was the firstborn in 1800 so I'm guessing at a marriage around 1798/9 but can't seem to see one.
