    Default John MILLS-help pls c1835-1879

    Good Evening everyone,

I am trying to help a friend find information regarding her great grandfather John MILLS. John married Eliza MOORE on 1st Dec 1863 in Loughborough, Leicestershire. He was 28 and a Stone Mason and his father's name was James.

We have been able to find 'a' John living in Caversham Oxfordshire in 1861 (RG9/883/12/17) who is the right age and occupation who gives his birthplace as ? St Johns Worcester and also John and his wife and family on 1871 census living in Leicestershire (RG10/3228/83/21). Again, John gives his birthplace as Worcester.

John died in 1879. We have been able to trace his wife and children forwards but have not been able to locate John with his parents on either 1841/51 census. I have no knowledge of the Worcester/Leicestershire areas and any help would be most appreciated.

    Many thanks

Many thanks for the 41/51 census references. I had seen this family before but discounted them as all born Leicestershire not Worcestershire.

there is a Mills family in Presteigne, Radnorshire in 1841/1851 which might be worth investigating. Son John is born Worcester, however no father at home just mother Sarah (and her mother Maria Johnson). In 1841 they have a Thomas Pinch living there and he is a mason. Also on that census John has the surname Jonson so perhaps he was born before Sarah married Mr Mills?

St John-in-Bedwardine is an area of Worcester. There is a Mills family in the neighbouring parish of St Clement but you can probably discount them as the father is John (not James)

Netti this is a great lead, thank you so much. There is, according to family folklore a link with Wales and this might just be it, although there is obviously some work to do to try and prove a connection with this family. Does anyone know if there are any records available online for the Presteigne/Radonshire area?
