    Default Ancestry problem

"Trees Service on the Ancestry.co.uk web site is temporarily unavailable due to technical difficulties. We are working to resolve the issue. In the meantime, you can continue to use the functional parts of the site. "

I thought at first they had wiped all my work but then the above banner came up/

Even the "functional parts of the site" aren't too brilliant at the moment.

It seems they are doing a big spring clean of all the working parts prior to an upgrade of something or other - we know all about those don't we? I just hope they didn't buy it from Vbulletin or we'll still be having problems six months from now.

Can you imagine what would happen if their software wasn't compatible with Internet Exploder

Now 4.17pm here - done yard work, laundry, helped my dad [aged 92] with his shower and now thinking about supper.

    Hopefully, tomorrow, it'll be back!!!

7.45pm and still no access -- -time to cancel and and ask for a refund or an extension on membersship?

I can understand short breaks, but this is beyond a 'joke'

They (Ancestry) are apologizing repeatedly for "unplanned maintenance" and updating status of bug fixes at

Some parts were working but generally not - 1 day down doesn't warrant requesting an extension - not that they would give it anyway. I did take a tour of the new look but gave up as it looks complicated. Better to try it when it's actually in place. It's been very good that they keep the "unplanned maintenance" banner up.
Sadly, our friend Vanessa, passed away 29th. February 2012.

Maybe they are clearing out the "dead wood". Those trees with no beginning and no end.

I took the tour as well, and I was quite impressed. It appears to me that there will be more to laearn, again, but our searches may be a little more in the range we are looking for, than they are now. Its really nice of them to give us the tour and a chance to state our opinions with such a big operation.

I received, without asking for it - I hasten to add - a very nice email from them with an apology for the inconvenience and a 1 day extension of my mmembership

Even one of the 'big boys' recognise the 'value' of 'customer service'. A pleasant way to start my day.
