My great great grandfather was Francis Pritchard who married Jane Lloyd and I have a dilemma sorting out the life of Francis.
*1862 The marriage certificate states they were married Oct. 31, 1862 at the Register Office, District of Shrewsbury. Francis was age 29, occupation butcher, residence Butcher Row, father Thomas, occupation butcher, deceased. Jane was age 24, occupation servant, residence Fran Rusle!! father Richard Lloyd, labourer.
*1863 The birth certificate for their daughter Mary born Jan. 11, 1863, Bakehouse Passage, Frankwell. Her father is Francis Pritchard, occupation butcher, and mother Jane (formerly Lloyd). You can see Mary was born just over 2 months after they were married.
*1871 The census RG10/2776 Saint Chad Shrewsbury has Francis name changed to Frederick and his age 35. Everything else seems in order.
*1881 I couldn't find any other reference in the 1881 census except their daughter Mary was in Wales and a spinster and servant.
*1883 Their daughter Mary married Robert Parry Feb. 16, 1863 in the Register Office in Llanfyllin. She listed her father as Frederick Pritchard, butcher, deceased.
Our family has an old picture of an unknown male and on the back it says Cound which is a town in Shropshire.
I looked at the 1841 census for Cound and there was a Francis but not the same age and no father.
I also looked at the 1841 census HO 107/925/1 St. Alkmond and found a Francis Pritchard that conforms to the age on his marriage cert. but there is no father named.
In the 1851 census HO 1071989 Madeley I noticed a Pritchard family with some children born in Cound and I was under the impression that perhaps 2 families were merged and they have brothers Francis 1836 and Frederick 1838 born in Cound. Further, it appears Francis may have died the 4th Qtr of 1863 and I was wondering if Frederick stepped in to help out Jane and Mary.
I'm trying to establish exactly when and where Francis was born and who was his mother as we know his father is Thomas Pritchard.
The family knows Jane and daughter Mary were buried in Kennerley Shropshire.
It seems there are too many Francis born around the same time and vicinity.
Thanks
Bob
