Default GRO Ireland Certificate Application Query

On the certificate application it asks for a PPS number (if known) - what is this? And should I include the Film, Vol and Page # taken from the Family Search Civil Registration Index?

Apologies if this has already been covered.

A PPS number is a social security number. Not applicable for genealogical queries, I think

    Exactly as Peter thinks,
it has been discussed before but for the life of me I cannot find it now.
Anyway when I ordered mine I ignored it and they still arrived OK.
    Good Luck Vanessa

Thanks Mutley. I know I had seen it somewhere, but couldn't remember where. I've decided to enclose the printer friendly sheet that IGI spits out so they will know where to look.

I also have a birth registration in Co Armagh N. Ireland in 1888. It is confusing reading which office to use for that one, whether it is GRO Ireland or Proni, since they apparently went separate ways in the 1920's?

Hi,you only need to quote Vol ,Page # and of course registration district and year. Certs for Co Armagh,as it is in Northern Ireland, are handled by PRONI.

Thanks pattenwalsh The familysearch pilot site implies that certs prior to the 1920's are all in Dublin but I shall order the other one from Proni as I originally planned - just a pain to get euros and £'s to go to 2 separate offices. I need one from each office. Oh well, life is fun

    Hi,

since your Armagh cert is before 1920, you can order it from Dublin also, and save the hassle of changing two types of money!!
