    Default George Henry SERLE

Hello, I'm looking for help with George Henry SERLE b 1872 I'm guessing that he was Royal Navy as he died in the Naval hospital Greenwich, London in 1918. He is listed as an acting writer. Forgive my ignorance but what do they do?
There is no service number listed. Would be interested in his service record and finding out what ships he served on.
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi

I did find a George Henry Searle in the 1901 Census, born 1872, Devonport, described as 'First Class Writer RN'. This man was unmarried and living at home. Using just his first names and the above place of birth I did a search of the online Seamans Service records at the NA site and found the following:

I think it would worth the cost of £3.50 to download this record because I believe this is your man. Please let me know how you get on.

Thank you for that. I did download what they had. Unfortunately not very much info but usefull.
It seems he had a temporary posting to HMS THETIS. Thetis was an Apollo-class second class protected cruiser launched in 1890. She was used as a minelayer from 1907 and was sunk in 1918 as a blockship at Zeebrugge.

He was not a well man and in his last year there are references to admissions to hospital and being 'on relief' on HMS Vigourous a supply ship?

Interestingly it does give the address for his wife and a note about his death "reply PDQ".

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi

Having read your latest post I did a check of the WW1 medal roll and found George with the note 'see Officers Roll'. This prompted me to check the Officers Service records in ADM 196, where I found the following:
