Interested in any military related information only on the following names of gentleman from Pembrokeshire who served in the Crimean War and for whom I have their last resting place ;
1. Sgt John Barrett born circa 1840 died aged 98 yrs, probably of Lamphey Pembs.
2. Sgt Michael Edward Carroll of Pembroke Dock Was at the siege of Sebastopol also participated in Inkerman and Alma and present at the taking of the Redan. Later Police Constable and Mayors Baliff.
3. Sgt Robert Horton. Served in India and Crimea with the 95th Regt of Foot, killed falling from a train in Pembrokeshire(full details of death known).
4. Seaman James Lewis appears to have served on a ship the “Highflyer”, was in action on a number of occasions including the bombardment of Sebastopol, by 1853 stationed in the Dardanells
5. Seaman Alfred Bryce In 1916 he was the last of 2 Pembroke survivors of the Crimea, where he had served in the R.N. The other being James Lewis above.
6. Erasmus Davis (1827-1915) of Tenby served with the Navy at the Crimea.
7. Henry Mattock who served through the Crimea, later a Chelsea Pensioner, father of Sgt Major Henry John Mattock. Henry John saw service South African Wars, ‘14-’18, Home Guard ’42-’45, and was stationed in Dublin during the rebellion of 1921.
Any amplification of their time in the forces would be appreciated.
