how certain are you that James married Sarah Haywood?
There is a marriage between James Anderson, brush maker aged 23 of Albert Street , son of William, a sailor, and Sarah Rallison, aged 24 of Albert Street, daughter of William. a labourer, at King's Lynn St Nicholas on 26th Aug 1869

Hi again Sue how certain or uncertain are you of two facts ie that James born 1771 is a connection with William and James, and also that William born 1811 died in 1876?
My reasoning is this, their is another William born 1811 in Kings Lynn who is a Fisherman, but if this is the case then the 1851 post 4 by Notanotherminer will not be the correct William, this is the other one!

so the marriage of James Anderson and Sarah Rallison is about right for the couple from the 1911 Census. So now we need to prove that they are the right couple.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this Anderson query.
I will put a message on tomorrow with what I now have to date. Am having computer problems at the moment and tried to put a message on this am to no avail. Computer rage is subsiding but will leave my message until tomorrow!!!! I can say that Rallison does figure in the family as far as my research has shown.

I decided to try tracing them backwards and made a couple of interesting discoveries.

William NEAL aged 30 b. Kings Lynn occ: Mariner
Mary A NEAL aged 26 b. Kings Lynn
Henry ANDERSON aged 41 b. Kings Lynn occ: Rug Weaver (Foot) (married visitor)
a marriage:
Marriages Sep 1870
ANDERSON Mary Ann Kings L. 4b 628
NEAL William Skerritt King's L 4b 628
so James had sisters Mary Ann and Charlotte. Also possibly a brother Henry.
so we now have even more clues to James ancestry.

I feel very guilty but I most certainly haven't been idling - honest!
My earliest Anderson is (my maternal grandmother):
Agnes Louise Anderson b 1.3.1874 Kings Lynn (probably north end i.e. Parish of St. Nicholas) d 14.2.1914 (buried KL cemetery) m (1898) Bertie Baldwin b 1874 - d 1947 (remarried)
Children:
Octavia Elizabeth b 1899
Bertie Edward James 1901 - 1972 buried Hoveton St. John Churchyard
Charlotte Bessie 1902
Lily Emmeline b 1903 - d 1989
Esther May b 10.5.1905 - d 24.2.1994 Crawley, Sussex
Elsie b 1907
Harold 1909 - 1965
Edith Helen - 1910 - 1951
Bertha - 1913 - 1959
(and possibly Arnold 2nd child of this marriage but rather a mystery - family (my mother Esther) told he had died shortly after birth but he didn't appear to have - he died aged 14 or 16 near Sporle, Swaffham - husband should have been away at Boer War when he was born)
Parents of Agnes Anderson and siblings:
James Anderson 1846 61 Chapel Street, Kings Lynn - d21.9.1917 16 Keppel Stree, Kings Lynn and Sarah Heywood/Haywood b 25.12.1845 - 1933 B Sporle, Swaffham/Little Dunham, Swaffham, Norfolk
Other children of James and Sarah: (NB Sarah's parents were William Haywood and Hannah Rallinson)
Mary A E - b 1870 - b 15 Victoria Street, Kings Lynn, Norfolk (All Saints - all other children also born then)
Rose May - b 1872 - 195??
Charlotte - b 1876
Sarah E - b 1880
James V - 1883 - 1953
Jessie (possibly Ethel Jessie) - b1889
Parents of James Anderson:
William Anderson b 1811 - d 1876 and Mary Ann Wickham - b 1814 - d 1907
Children:
Sarah - 1835
William - 1837
Henry - 1841
John - 1843
Agnes - 1844
Charlotte - 1847 - 1892
Robert - 1847
Elizabeth - 1850
George - 1851
Parents of William Anderson:
James Anderson b 1777 - d? m - Susan b 1877 (? where born but James was almost certainly Norfolk)
Children of James and Susan:
William - b 1811 - b 1876
No other children known of
The above are not absolute except for Agnes Louise Anderson and her parents.
Sue (sorry if this is muddled (I think it is OK) but I can only see 10 lines at a time as I type and I toggling between this an a.co - almost impossible and can only use up and down arrows! Am I the only one having this problem?).

Florence Anderson aged 6 in 1891
Florence is a bit of a clue possibly - my mother always told me that "Florence had a lot of children, went mad and had to be away" - is this the poor Florence she talked about - there doesn't seem to be another.
