I suggest you go to the Historical Directories website (Google will find it), do a location search on London, and look for Post Office directories of an appropriate date. They are usually in 4 volumes of which one will be Trades, and I'd expect various sections headed "Metal xxx" or under specific metal names. Look for any in streets in SW1 where the OXO tower is located and hope there aren't too many, or that one of the names rings a bell. There will be another volume entitled Streets which may help locate the company and/or the street if it no longer exists. Google will also find old London maps, or you can buy them from our hosts at Parish Chest.

    SE1, I think? It's in Southwark.

(I have moved these posts into a new thread in the London forum.)

Here is a link to the 1900 version of an A-Z. A bit fiddly to navigate but might help:

I would like to thank Chris-Kerrywood-Rogtut for their kind help with my queries, did not expect to get replies to this question so quickly,Chris i am afraid i do not know the street where this Metal& Alloy co. was, i will keep on looking to see what i can find out. My mother used to take my grandfathers dinner to him, in her lunch break from school, i remember her telling me she had to catch a bus to go over Blackfriers bridge, to give her dad (my grandfather) his dinner covered over in a bowl, then he would give her a penny, she would get back on bus & rush back to school. (hope she had some lunch before returning to school!! must have done).Once again T/y to you all.
    Regards

Don't forget that you're probably about an hour away from the London Metropolitan Archives where you'll find many more resources - directories, maps etc than you'll find on line. Could be worth a visit. More interesting than computer keyboards as well.
