Default Born in India as a British Subject

    Hi everyone
I have recently discovered my Grandfather was a British subject born in Bangalore, India c 1870 although there dosn't seem to be a record of his birth that matches up with any details that I already have. I have checked with the British Library with no success.
On his wedding certificate in 1900 he gives his father's occupation as Bandmaster, would this have been military ?
If anyone has any ideas where I go next I would appreciate it.

Some of my bunch were born abroad whilst with serving soldiers and their births were registered in the UK in the area of the barracks they returned to - Aldershot etc.

    1. Have you checked the GRO military indexes?
    2. Try to locate his father's military records, probably in series WO 97 at the National Archives.
