    Default Masson in Bengal

I have in my wife's ancestry in India William Pulteney Masson.
I have very little on him (b Gloucestershire 1809, East India College, Haileybury 1829, Final Appointment, Judge of Allahabad, Uttah Pradesh, d 1869).

I am unable to find anything else on him - does anyone know of ways to find any details of legal appointments in British India?

    Hello Michael,

Have you tried FIBIS (Families In British India Society) at all?

    Hi Jan

Yes, the info I have came from FIBIS and the India Office, but that appears to be all there is.

    You might try:

The London Gazette (free to search and view, keep searches simple)

Archive.Timesonline (free to search, pay to view)

The Indian Army and Civil Service List (may be available on pay-per-view sites, or at largeer reference libraries).

Documents found using the India Office Family History Search facility have references, using these you may be able to order copies from the India Office, but these may be quite expensive.

Also, a global search of TNA's web-site for William Pul*ney Masson produced a hit in connection with Haileybury - click here

There is this explanation of the function of the college

A search of TNA just for William Masson produces hits which are connected with India, it would seem possible that they are connected with someone related to your chap.
