Quakers in Derbyshire

Hi just wondering if anyone can help,

Does anyone know if an ancestor was buried in a Quaker burial ground would they have been a Quaker? It sounds a silly question but the only record of my particular family is that of two burials of two daughters in Codnor Breach in 1704 and 1706, this is a confirmed place of burial for the Quakers.

I have searched the earlier non conformist records of the Quakers in Derbyshire where they survive and also after this date and I can find no other Births, Marriages or Deaths for the family.


Any ideas anyone?

Hello Paul,

I haven't explored very deeply but you may be able to find the answer on the Religious Society of Friends website: quaker.org/ (put www. in front). There is masses of information there.

Also, if you find that they were Quakers, then "My Ancestors Were Quakers" could also be of help.

Hi,

I have searched (from CD) Codnor breach meeting 1653-1712 Chesterfield meeting 1653-1712 Monyash 1645-1733 and Slack Hall meeting 1673- 1717,
I have not been able to get to the record office as I live a considerable distance away so the CD was the next best thing.
I found the initial record on the BMD site so ordered the CD thinking I might have found some of my elusive ancestors, just goes to show even when something seems obvious it still isnt !!

I would try Belper or Basford parish registers to see if they appears in those, just in case there is a record of their birth or even marriage.
