Pretty sketchy at the moment but can someone please expand upon the following:
Thomas Wilson Marshall born 1834 in New Norfolk Tasmania c.1834. Marries Mary Emma Hodges (?) and has a child, John Boyd Marshall. This man marries Clara Elizabeth Fogarty. Clara dies in NZ in 1938 and John Boyd dies in NZ in 1940.
Is anyone familiar with this family and can tell me who made the move from Tasmania to NZ and when ? My daughter has married into the Marshall Family and a whole new branch of Family History has opened up.
Thanks
Alan

Thanks for your reply Wayne ! Finally we got lucky ! It appears you may fit in with the family of Marshalls that my son-in-law belongs to. He tells me that your father may be part of a large family of at least 10 children, the oldest being William and the youngest Toby. Does this make any sense to you ? Can you fill in any of the other children ? If you think we might have a match, Darrin, my son-in-law, is willing to swap the information that he has about the Tasmanian connection.
Darrin was brought up in Whakatane before moving to Australia.
Regards
Alan

Yes your son inlaw is right there are 10 Uncles and Aunties. Oldest to youngest are William, Clare, Bob, Hilda, Henry (toby), Jack, Ted, Thmas, Mary and Cliff.Of these only Clare, Toby, Thomas and Cliff are alive. John Thomas Wilson marshall and his wife were killed on a level crossing in a car returning home from church. The offspring of the above uncles and aunties are too many to list. Toby alone has 18 children! I have 11 siblings. I also have photos of the Marshall family in Tassie.Oh and by the way Benji Marshall (rugby league) is a rally, Tobys Grandson.

Great news !
Darrin is out at the moment running a Class in Physical Exercise but I wanted you to know ASAP that we are on the right wavelength. I have the Family History Bug but will pass this strand over to Darrin for development.

I know that you have made contact with Darrin and much information has been exchanged. I am so encouraged, as this is what Family History is all about:
searching, helping, waiting and getting lucky!
I suggest all further contacts are made through Darrin's site.
And I will continue to chase my own personal Brickwalls !
Have you ever met Sarah Ellen Cahill of Liverpool England ? She is my &$*&^$^* missing person !
Great Work !!

Thomas Wilson Marshall
Hi Alan,
My great great grandfather was Thomas Wilson Marshall born in Scotland in 1835. He came to Australia in about 1858 and married Mary Emma Hodges (born UK 1840) in Launceston, Tasmania in 1859. My great grandmother Elizabeth Jane Marshall was born in 1866. My mother has always told me about some of Elizabeth's siblings moving to NZ. I recently discover Thomas and Mary's death, funeral and burial notices on the following link. http://www.tascoastalcemeteries.com/.../marshall.html. The info has a mistake in their date of arrival in Tasmania but it does mention the children who went to NZ. I am currently researching this side of the family and could probably supply more info if required. I would be interested in getting info on the NZ side of the family.
Regards
Elizabeth

I have some really old photo albums from that side of the family but have no idea who everyone is.

I notice your area is Canberra Act.
We live in South Coast of NSW. If the next contact has any significance, we may be able to meet.
