My great grandmother Elizabeth Jane Marshall was born in 1866. My mother has always told me about some of Elizabeth's siblings moving to NZ. I recently discover Thomas and Mary's death, funeral and burial notices on the following link. http://www.tascoastalcemeteries.com/.../marshall.html. The info has a mistake in their date of arrival in Tasmania but it does mention the children who went to NZ. I am currently researching this side of the family and could probably supply more info if required. I would be interested in getting info on the NZ side of the family.

    Hello Elizabeth,
I have been researching this family for a few years as it is the direct line for my Mother-in-law. If you want to look out on the free Rootsweb WorldConnect website you will see the results in detail. The other person posting out to this forum in 2008 had the wrong Thomas Wilson being married to Mary Emma. I have more info on the arrival of the families (MARSHALL & HODGES). My family tree database is cpmlni-tree1 (4th letter is lower case L). I would be very please to hear from you as my mother-in-law says her father, the youngest in T.W.'s family did not have much communication with his family after he left for Victoria. There are a couple of snippets on John Boyd MARSHALL.
    Hope to hear from you,
    Best regards, Linda

    Hi Alan,
I just noticed your posts, and that for Elizabeth. I had forgotten about this forum while I ducked and dived into all the other links out on the web. My most up-to-date tree is out on the free Rootsweb World Connect website under database name: cpmlni-tree1 (4th letter lower case L). This has quite a lot of MARSHALL info that will make good reading for your son-in-law and I'm still going. I even found the divorce for John Boyd MARSHALL and Clara. Would love to get feedback on the folks who went to NZ to help fill in some gaps. My mother-in-law is in her 91st year so anything I can pass on to her is an absolute bonus. My email is out on the other site should you or Darren wish to make direct contact.
    Best regards, Linda (in QLD)

    Hi
My name is Darrin Marshall. What i have read so far is on the same lines. My grandfather was William (Bill) Marshall, my great grandfather was John Thomas William Marshall, my great great grandfather was John Boyd Marshall, my great great great grandfather was Thomas Wilson Marshall who married Mary Emma hodges in Tasmania and my great great great great grandfather was John Boyd Marshall from scotland (lanarkshire) The thing i would like to know is, who is his wife, did he get married in scotland or Tasmania after he arrived? Because his son Thomas (my great great great grandfather) was born in Tasmania in 1834.
Let me know what I can help you with to fill in the gaps in this family line.
    Thanks

    Hi, Darrin Marshall here.
Clara Elizabeth Fogarty was married to my great great grandfather John Boyd Marshall. Her parents were David Fogarty and Lila Maria Brown. So that would make interesting reading.
    Thanks.

Hi Darren, couldn't get back to you sooner as the weather here in QLD had made life a little tricky. We certainly have a difference in our research results for the Thomas Wilson MARSHALL b.1834/5. I have him born in Scotland and this is backed up by his obituary and family verbal history. The Thomas Wilson MARSHALL who was born to Samuel MARSHALL and Agnes WILSON fits the timeframe and the name combination. Although the name Samuel has not, apparently, been perpetuated as a first name, many of the other names of Thomas and Mary (nee HODGES) children mirror those of Thomas' siblings. As the family story is that Thomas left Scotland "under a cloud" he may not have been on good terms with his father. If you have read my notes in my database out on WorldConnect perhaps you would like to send an email to exchange further info. My Mother-in-law is a 1st cousin to your grandfather.
    Regards, Linda

I am also a cousin of the Marshall's through Clara Fogarty whose father was my great great grandfather' younger brother. I also live in NZ as David's brother moved over here and settled in Timaru. Any info on the Marshall family from John Boyd down would be appreciated as I am also trying to fill in the missing gaps.
