Default Private Ladies School - Hoddesdon

    Hey,

I found out that one o my relatives, a Martha Hepzibah Ashford ran a private ladies school in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

Does anyone know where I can find more information about this? Schol records, photos ect?

    Thank you!

Contact HALS - Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies. I know that they have certain school records.

if you input Martha Ashford Hertfordshire into a search enging you will find information about the Martha Ashford Ladies School Hoddesdon Villia High Street Hoddesdon Herts.

In 1891 it was the school RG12 piece 1092 folio 43 page 9

I think I have found it on the 1901 as the British School House RG 13 piece 1280 folio 32 page 9 but Martha is not there, perhaps they sold the school?

I think I have found it on the 1901 as the British School House
I don't think it can be because Hoddesdon Villa is addressed as such in the 1901 census (see address search on TNA official 1901 census site). I'll leave it to others to check!

Also "British School" has a specific meaning - a school run by the British and Foreign School Society (a nonconformist foundation).
