Does anyone have the DADDS family in their tree?
I am looking for William Dadds, b. c.1791 Preston, Kent. He married Ann JARVIS, c. 1816.
They had James Dadds, b. 1823 Preston, Kent and he married Elizabeth Kennett 20.12.1851 in Preston. She was daughter of James & Mercy Kennett.
Children:
Thomas Dadds b. 1853,
Rhoda J Dadds, b. 1854
Elizabeth Ann Dadds, b. 1856
James Dadds,
Sally Mercy Dadds, b. 10.06.1856 Ash, Kent
Pleased to hear from anyone, who recognises the above names.
Glenys

Dadds
Hello Glenys
This isnt going to be of much use to you but my cab driver,s sir name is Dadds and i know its not that common a name. The most Ancestry returns is 388 in 1891 which is nothing compared to some. He hasnt done his family tree but his grandfather came from Kent - i think they were Bakers - i did do a look up on cwwg site and found his grandfather on there.
Sorry to inform you of such trivia !

Hello Glenys
I meant to reply to this when I first saw it, but you know how it is
Did you know that there were once quite a few Dadd/Dadds in the Ilfracombe area of North Devon? There was an artist called Richard Dadd who, I believe, murdered his father and ended up in an asylum
. I think he may have come from somewhere in Kent. Anyway, probably doesn't help, but I thought I'd mention it
Best wishes
Ann

There are two distinct concentrations of the surname DADDS - one in Kent (Eastry RD and thereabouts); the other in North Devon (Barnstaple and surrounding districts).
The surname isn't common enough to draw any firm conclusions but it is likely that there are two distinct clans in the two regions with no relationship between them.
Glenys's DADDS in Preston are slap bang in the middle of their home area (I assume this is the Preston in Eastry RD?)
KENNETT by the way is also a predominantly Kent name (now why was I expecting it to come from Berkshire?

Tracey, nothing is trivia! What is trivia to one person, could be the answer to another.
Thanks for that info, although I would be able to tell more if I knew the man's name. If you know it or he is interested, I will have a look to see if he's in my lot!!

Thanks Ann...(I think)

I don't know of any of my Dadds that moved to Devon (but that's not to say that they didn't). I've recently been in touch with someone in the US who has been collecting DADDs, so I now have a list of them.
I hope that Richard wasn't amongst my lot.....but you never can tell!!

Hi Glenys
I like that sort of information but i know there are a lot of genealogy snobs out there who dismiss that soft of thing. I will check with him to see if he minds and also the exact names of his grandparents.

I have recently found a load of DADDs on the 1851 Kent Census, who I am now in the process of trying to tie up, and yes Peter, they all come from the Eastry area. There are also quite a few KENNETTS. They all come from around the Eastry/Canterbury/Deal areas which is where my main rellies stem from on my mother's side.
Why were you expecting the Kennetts to come from Berkshire Peter? Haven't checked, but is that a name you are looking for?

Hello Glenys
I wasn't suggesting you had anything to do with Richard Dadd......
but if you are interested, I've found a good biography at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kate.br...dbiography.htm I'm sure he is not related to you
Best wishes
Ann
